Chicago White Sox and Cubs fans battle on the South Side! Hair-pulling, sucker-punching brawl ignites after two women attack each other

Chicago baseball fans showed considerably more fighting spirit than the White Sox have shown this season, engaging in a furious fight this weekend that saw them pulling out their hair and hitting each other hard during an interleague brawl on the South Side.

Both visiting Cubs fans and White Sox fans joined in the melee, but the combatants weren’t strictly divided based on their cheering interests. As seen in a video that has since gone viral on social media, the brawl began with two women wearing White Sox gear.

A woman threw a wild right at another, only to be grabbed by her long brown hair. Men in both Cubs and White Sox uniforms tried to intervene, but things quickly spiraled out of control from there.

While the fight started with two women, it was suddenly a group of men trading blows.

Much of the violence can be attributed to two men: a taller fighter in a brightly colored shirt and his smaller opponent in a white tank top.

Interestingly, it was the smaller of the two that seemed to gain the upper hand.

“Stop! It’s over!” a peacemaker could be heard shouting 40 seconds into the one-minute clip.

Unfortunately, it was far from over.

A man wearing a replica White Sox jersey tried to reignite the brawl but was thrown against a wall in the main stands of Guaranteed Rate Field.

At that moment, two security guards arrived and tried to calm the tension.

As Internet commentators were quick to point out, the brutal scene unfolded during an unremarkable 3-1 Cubs victory over a White Sox team that has fewer than 30 wins this season.

And while the Cubs are clearly better than their South Side rivals and still four games out of the final Wild Card spot, the North Siders are still below .500 and unlikely to make much of an impression this year.

“Imagine getting this excited about two teams with 87 wins between them,” one fan wrote on X.

“It’s not a crosstown series without drunk fans shaking hands,” added one White Sox supporter.

Some criticized the fighters’ technique.

“lol,” began one post on X. “Not a single punch executed correctly. Windmill arms.”

The dagger was struck by a woman named Shannon Adcock: “They all hit like the White Sox.”

After firing manager Pedro Grifol and replacing him with interim captain Grady Sizemore, the Chicago South Siders lost both games of their crosstown series with the Cubs. But they bounced back Monday for their best win of the season, a 12-2 victory over the New York Yankees.

Meanwhile, the Cubs lost 9-8 to the Cleveland Guardians, extending their interleague season into late August.
