Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese makes history after breaking WNBA record only 17 games into her career

Angel Reese’s name is already written in the history books less than 20 games into her WNBA career.

The Chicago Sky rookie became the first player in league history to achieve 10 consecutive double-doubles in a single season.

She finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds during her team’s 70-62 loss to the Minnesota Lynx Sunday night, surpassing the record of nine double-doubles set by future Hall of Famer Candace Parker in 2015.

The mother of the 22-year-old, who also goes by Angel, was sitting courtside during the game at Wintrust Arena, where it initially looked like Reese would come up short.

But on Sky’s final attack, she was fouled and went to the free throw line.

Although she missed the first free throw, the second shot brought her total to 10 points, and the crowd went wild as her mother watched emotionally.

She was fouled on a box-out and went to the line.

“She knows what she does best,” Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon told reporters earlier this week.

“The one thing about her is she’s incredibly hard on herself. As far as rebounding the ball, we knew that would translate to [from college]. And she’s getting a better understanding of how to score around the ring. She’s learning and she’s learning fast.’

Reese is not only in the news for her skills on the court, but also for the drama surrounding her long-standing rivalry with Caitlin Clark.

“People are coming to games, celebrities are coming to games, sold out arenas. Just because of one game,” the former LSU superstar said earlier this month of her matchup against Clark and the Indiana Fever.

“And if I just look at that… I’ll take that role. I’ll take the villain role and I’ll continue to do that, and that’ll be for my teammates as well.”

Reese caused a stir that night after her teammate Chennedy Carter brutally bodychecked Clark, the number one pick in the WNBA Draft.

After Carter pushed her to the ground unprovoked, they were sharply criticized as they appeared to laugh together about the foul as they left the field.
