Chicago Sky player Chennedy Carter clobbers ex-teammate in flagrant foul – two months after THAT brutal bodycheck on Caitlin Clark

A former Chicago Sky teammate was the victim of Chennedy Carter’s latest egregious foul on Friday.

The Sky met the Sun for the first time since Marina Mabrey requested a transfer from Chicago and ended up in Connecticut.

It didn’t take long for Carter to take a swing at her former teammate. Mabrey, who had come off the Connecticut bench, was hit in the face with a forearm late in the first half.

As Mabrey attempted to take a shot in the paint, Carter raised her hand to defend, but her swat attempt was nowhere near the ball and hit Mabrey in the face.

Carter appeared to be intentionally fouling, as she casually walked away. Meanwhile, Angel Reese greeted her with a handshake as Mabrey’s back hit the hardwood on contact.

The egregious crime against Mabrey occurred two months after Carter’s infamous bodycheck on Caitlin Clark.

In a 71-70 loss to the Fever in June, Carter rammed Clark as the rookie waited for an in-bounds pass in the third quarter. The foul resulted in Carter and the Sky being labeled antagonists in the WNBA.

Friday’s foul was Carter’s fourth of the season, leaving her one game shy of an automatic suspension with 12 games remaining this season.

Yet Mabrey had the last laugh, scoring a game-high 24 points to help The Sun erase a six-point deficit and win 82-80.

When asked about the violation during the press conference, Mabrey gave an evasive answer: “There are levels to this nonsense, so I’m not going to argue with that.”

Mabrey’s departure from Chicago raised questions about the locker room dynamic for the emerging team. The questions arose when Mabrey tried to leave while Carter, Reese and Kamila Cardoso began chatting with each other.

Eventually Mabrey explained that she joined Sky to play for James Wade, but he was fired last season and Mabrey didn’t enjoy her role under Teresa Weatherspoon.

“I came to play for James Wade, the system he built and the vision he saw for me,” Mabrey told the Chicago Sun-Times. “I don’t like jumping ship, so he left and I thought, ‘OK, let’s see what happens.’

Mabrey continued, “After a while, it becomes difficult to come to one thing, and it turns out not to be quite the role, position, or anything that you originally planned on being. [Wade].
