An off-duty Chicago detective has been found dead in his home with a gunshot wound to the head.
The 59-year-old man was found dead around noon Friday in the home on the 3900 block of West 104th Street in Mount Greenwood, Chicago.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office had yet to perform an autopsy to confirm the cause of death and had not released his name.
Chief Larry Snelling announced his death in a message to officers, saying the detective worked in the Area 2 Division, which covers most of the South Side.

“I ask that you keep his family, loved ones and everyone who worked with him in your thoughts as they cope with his unfathomable loss,” he wrote.
“Grief can weigh heavily on us as we try to understand the loss of a fellow CPD member.”
Snelling urged officers to take advantage of CPD’s Employee Assistance Program and Chaplains Ministry if they need it.
