Humiliation for entitled Chicago influencer, 22, as her lies about mom-and-pop business are exposed

A Chicago influencer has been spectacularly exposed as a liar after she tried to take down a mom-and-pop restaurant with false claims.

Julia Reel, 22, saw six of her seven claims against the Hubbard Inn in Windy City dismissed by a judge this week.

The ruling specifically stated that she lied about being manipulated out of the business by a bouncer during a March visit.

The influencer, who tried to destroy the company with a subsequent post, is still allowed to claim that she was injured by the bouncer.

Video shared by the Hubbard Inn debunked Reel’s claims that she was assaulted and pushed out of the restaurant, with the bouncer leading her off the premises without touching her.

Reel sued the Hubbard Inn, seeking damages for alleged injuries, including a concussion and significant bruising, that she claimed she suffered during the confrontation.

The restaurant then sued Reel for defamation, claiming her TikTok video resulted in a loss of more than $30,000.

The Hubbard Inn said in a statement after the ruling that it was “pleased that the court saw our side in dismissing Ms. Reel’s baseless claims.”

“After months of defamation on social media, we are grateful that the court has recognized the majority of the claims for what they are: nonsense.”

TikToker Julia Reel claimed in a video earlier this year that she was “assaulted” and pushed down the stairs of the Hubbard Inn in Chicago during a night out, before the restaurant responded with surveillance footage of how the situation actually unfolded.

Although Reel deleted her TikTok accusations, the Hubbard Inn shared its own viral response to her video, which has been viewed more than 9.9 million times.

In the response video, the restaurant showed clips of Reel’s claims alongside surveillance footage of her encounter with the bouncer, starting with her claims that she was “manipulated” out of a bathroom.

Although Reel claimed the security guard grabbed her and her friend before she “had a chance to walk out alone,” surveillance showed the bouncer walking next to her without touching her.

“I’m immediately grabbed by this guy and he grabs my arm, he pushes me, he manhandles me, and what’s going on?” Reel is claimed in her TikTok.

The Hubbard Inn captioned footage proving the claim was a lie: “Below is footage of Ms. Reel being safely escorted from the bathroom hallway to the exit stairs.”

Reel then escalated her accusations, claiming the bouncer pushed her down the restaurant stairs and “sent me into the air.”

In surveillance footage of the stairs, Reel and her friend are seen walking down the stairs without ever being pushed, as the bouncer leads them to the exit with a flashlight.

After showing the corroborating surveillance footage, the Hubbard Inn followed Reel’s description of the so-called “incident.”

“It was the craziest experience I’ve ever had,” she claimed. “It was absolutely ridiculous how much it escalated.”

Although the footage showed Reel and her friend leaving the front door, the TikToker claimed through her lawyers that the restaurant’s security did not catch the entire interaction.

Reel claimed the bouncer grabbed her arm and “assaulted” her from the bathroom before the restaurant produced surveillance footage showing her walking side by side with the security guard without him touching her.

Reel's allegations that she was pushed down the stairs were mocked on social media after the restaurant showed footage of her calmly walking down the stairs and leaving.

The Hubbard Inn said Reel’s TikTok sparked a wave of negative reviews and hateful messages to staff.

In Reel’s original lawsuit, she accused the restaurant and its bouncer, who has not been named, of battery, infliction of emotional distress, defamation and false light. Chicago Sun Times.

On Wednesday, Cook County Judge Patrick Sherlock dismissed six of the seven claims but allowed a single sexual assault allegation against the restaurant to remain in court.

Sherlock has dismissed some claims because the bouncer was not named, and others due to a lack of evidence to support Reel’s claims.

The judge wrote: ‘(Reel) has not advanced any allegation that would lead to a finding that the bouncer’s conduct was extreme and outrageous, for which [Hubbard Inn] can be held liable.’

‘Under no circumstances [Hubbard Inn] uttering insults or calling [Reel] a liar, like [Reel] claims. Moreover, although [Reel] claims [Hubbard Inn] acted with actual malice, as appears from the statements of [Hubbard Inn] do not support malicious intent, but rather a means to repair the damage [Hubbard Inn] faced as a result of [Reel’s] original TikTok video.”

The Hubbard Inn’s own defamation case against Reel was also allowed to proceed in the ruling.

In her own statement after the ruling, Reel said through her lawyer: “We are very pleased that the Court is proceeding with the case, including the undisputed claim regarding the harm caused to Ms Reel.

‘We are also pleased that the Court’s ruling provides the opportunity to revisit some of the other claims now or in the future.

“As we all expected, this will be a long and difficult trial, which will invariably last until the end. Mrs. Reel is prepared and ready for battle against the Hubbard Inn.”
