Chicago Fire players are pelted with trophies by rowdy Club America fans as the MLS League Cup defeat turns ugly… and find out who else made it through to the last 16

Club America’s Leagues Cup victory in Chicago turned ugly Friday night when visiting fans threw cups at a Fire player.

America won the game 1-0 behind an own goal in the 64th minute, but there was apparently still vitriol for the hosts afterwards at SeatGeek Stadium.

Mexican club supporters were captured during cup-pelting at Carlos Teran in Chicago, with club staffers stepping in to protect the defender and draw him away from American supporters.

Teran was seen saying something to the fans as he walked in the other direction.

It’s not entirely clear why Teran was hit with cups, but footage of the game’s highlights shows that after the final whistle, he appeared to be pointing at the American fans and ran over to them before the unfortunate scene ensued.

Despite the night’s unsavory finish, America has nevertheless progressed to the Round of 16, where it will face Nashville SC on the road.

There were six other Leagues Cup games on Friday, five of which had ended at the time of publication.

Columbus and Minnesota tied 3–3 with the latter team advancing on penalties.

Minnesota won the shootout 4-3 as Miguel Tapias scored the game-goal.

That wasn’t the only game that went to penalties that night – or even Ohio State.

Nashville defeated Cincinnati 5-4 via penalty kicks as Dax McCarty completed a perfect set of penalty kicks for his team on the road.

Further south, Real Salt Lake had a successful evening after their game against Club Leon – originally scheduled for Thursday – was postponed due to bad weather, which also saw a raccoon invade the stadium.

They beat their visitors 3-1 as Danny Musovski scored a brace and Cristian Arango scored another goal.

However, Sporting Kansas City could not match that success, as the club lost 4-1 to Toluca.

Pedro Raul and Robert Morales both ended the game with a goal and each assisted in setting up goals.

In the final game of the night, Tigres traveled to Vancouver, with the game tied 1–1 in the second half at time of publication.
