A Chicago Cubs security worker was hospitalized after coming into contact with a “foreign substance” on Tuesday, the team confirmed.
The man in question was taken to the hospital after opening a suspicious package at the team’s offices near Wrigley Field, before suffering an allergic reaction.
Firefighters said the man came into contact with an “unknown skin irritant,” the outlet reported.
That triggered a Level 1 Hazmat call to the Cubs administrative offices, with a bomb unit on scene.
The Cubs confirmed in a statement that the man was a security employee and said he has since been released from the hospital.

“This afternoon, a member of our security team detected a foreign substance contained in a small package delivered to our offices at 1101 West Waveland,” the statement said.
“We immediately notified authorities, which triggered a Chicago Fire Hazardous Materials response.” The employee noticed an allergic reaction and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. He has since been released.
“At this time, we have not been asked to leave the building or shelter in place while the safety assessment and investigation is ongoing.”
According to ABC 7 Chicagothe man was taken by ambulance to Illinois Masonic Hospital.
