Chianti Classico has won the Ultima Handicap Chase on day one of the Cheltenham Festival.
The Kim Bailey-trained horse romped to victory, ahead of Twig and Meetingofthewaters in second and third, with Famous Bridge and The Goffer in fourth and fifth.
Coming in at 6-1, ridden by David Bass, Chianti Classico was one of two Bailey horses, with Trelawne falling earlier in the race, although the horse was believed to have regained its feet and suffered no serious injury.
It comes more than 25 years after Bailey last won the same race, with Betty’s Boy taking the honors in 1999.
Meanwhile, Highland Hunter also fell, but after the race it was announced that they had suffered a fatal injury.
