Chhattisgarh Cong to hold marathon on Monday for first-time voter awareness

Prime Minister Bhupesh Baghel and party leader Kanhaiya Kumar, among others, will participate, with the CM interacting with those within the first 100 of the marathon, he said.

The Congress will organize a marathon in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur on Monday to create awareness among the new voters in the poll-bound state.

The parliamentary elections will be held in Chhattisgarh in two phases on November 7 and 17, while counting of votes will take place on December 3.

“There are about 18 lakh voters in Chhattisgarh. The Congress believes that young voters are the future of the country. To motivate them to cast their votes, the party will organize a ‘voter awareness marathon’ on Monday,” said Sushil Anand Shukla, chief of communications department of the state Congress.

“Young people in the age group of 18 to 25 years can participate in the marathon. They can interact with each other during the event and become aware of their voting rights. Registration for the marathon, which starts at 6 a.m. at Telibandha pond and ends at Gandhi Maidan, can be done online and offline,” Shukla said.

Prime Minister Bhupesh Baghel and party leader Kanhaiya Kumar, among others, will participate, with the CM interacting with those within the first 100 of the marathon, he said.

In 1989, then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi lowered the voting age limit from 21 years to 18 years, following which the participation of young voters in democracy has increased, Shukla added.
