Chewbacca joke: Single mom is constantly subjected to phone calls that mimic Star Wars character

A young mother has been bombarded by pranksters posing as the Star Wars character Chewbacca.

While the Wookie’s gurgling roar is an iconic part of the film franchise, Taylor Paige has long since tired of the joke.

She doesn’t know why, but her phone number was on posters put up around Cairns encouraging people to call her and pretend to be the iconic character for a chance to win $100 of wine.

Ms Paige, from Sydney’s west, has no idea who could be behind the prank.

“I’m not so sure, I honestly couldn’t tell you,” she told A Current Affair.

“I actually hate Star Wars, I’ve only seen one or two movies… I’m not a Star Wars fan.”

The posters read “Please call with your best Chewbacca impression…$100 cash reward for the best,” accompanied by a photo of the famous Wookie and Ms. Paige’s phone number.

Ms Paige revealed she texted the callers asking ‘who is this?’ and they simply called back to repeat the impersonation.

During the taping of the program, Ms. Paige received another joke, after which she promptly hung up and frustratingly said, “every time, all day.”

The prank is eerily similar to one perpetrated in Cairns in 2020 by a jilted ex-boyfriend, prompting locals to call his ex-partner a Chewbacca impersonator.

The couple had been together for three years before the woman ended the relationship after seeing messages suggesting he had cheated on her.

But her bitter ex decided to get her back for dumping him and put up posters in Cairns challenging people to a Chewbacca competition, with the best impression getting $200.

“Someone called and said they thought it might have been done as a joke because they saw (a man) putting up the poster,” the woman told Cairns Post.

“It hurts my feelings.”
