He was previously married to Susan Hewitt and Jacqueline Carlin, and also has a son named Brian Perkins, 44, from a previous relationship.

Kaley and Emily also took to their Instagrams to wish their famous dad a happy birthday with plenty of sweet snaps.

Caley wrote: ‘Happy Birthday Dabby!!! I love you so much!! @chevichase Greatest dad ever!!!!

While Emily wrote: “Big Dub is 80 today, and what a bloody life he’s led. From driving a cab in New York to hosting the Oscars multiple times, he’s done more and lived harder than anyone I know.

“At his core he is deeply loving, sensitive and funny.” We wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Happy birthday to the best, cutest, sweetest, most annoying Dub there is.” My friend!!’

The celebration comes after Chevy was caught up in controversy again last month, after he slammed his comeback gig at Community as ‘not funny enough’.

He was an actor fired off the critical acclaim NBC sitcom for using the N-word in front of co-stars Yvette Nicole Brown and Donald Glover, 11 years ago.

Chevy insisted on it he “didn’t mind the character” he played – politically incorrect millionaire Pierce Hawthorne – but “felt happier being alone”.

Speaking with VTF Podcast host Marc Maron said: ‘I just didn’t want to be surrounded by that table, every day, with those people. It was too much.

“Honestly, I felt like the show wasn’t funny enough for me, in the end.” I felt a little constrained.

“Everybody had their own thing, and I thought they were all good.” It just wasn’t hard enough to hit for me.’

Creator Dan Harmon’s cult classic – set in a fictional college in Colorado – also stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Ken Jeong and Jim Rush.

Chevy also criticized the show he got his start on, Saturday Night Live, in a 2018 interview with the Washington Post.

He was one of the series’ original cast members in 1975, but became the first to leave midway through the second season.

Speaking about the current version of the show, he said: “I’m amazed that Lorne (Michaels – creator of SNL) has stooped so low. I had to watch it for a bit, and I just couldn’t believe it…

‘That means an entire generation of jerks is laughing at the worst fucking humor in the world. You know what I mean? How dare you give that generation worse shit than they already had in their lives? It just drives me crazy.’

Fellow SNL star Pete Davidson blasted Chevy for his comments, saying: ‘Fucking Chevy Chase. He’s just a really bad, racist person and I don’t like him.

“It’s also disrespectful to Lorne, the guy who gave you your career.” No matter how big you are, you can’t forget what that guy did for you.’

Responding to accusations about his unsavory reputation on Community and SNL, where he infamously got into a backstage brawl with co-star Bill Murray in 1978, Chewie said it didn’t bother him.

Referring to his critics, he said CBS Sunday Morning: “I guess you’d have to ask them. I don’t give an ac**p’.

Laughing, he added: ‘I am what I am. And I like who I am. I do not care. And part of me is that I don’t care. And I thought about it a lot. And I don’t know what to tell you, man. I just don’t care.’
