Burke opened up about her state of mind amid the bitter split in March of last year, posting a statement on Instagram.
She began: “I’ve found that whenever I’m at a point in my life where I have to process big emotions, the best thing I can do is spend some time alone, in addition to being with [my dog] Ysa, of course, but I really feel like she’s a part of me, so it doesn’t count.
“To be honest with you,” Cheryl confessed, “actually feeling my feelings is something new for me.”
Burke went on to say that she’s spent “her entire life up to this point trying to numb” her feelings, and she’s “learning that actually going through them is MUCH harder.”
She added: ‘I guess all of that is to say that really experiencing my feelings, whatever they are, being alone for a few days has been the best thing for me. I highly recommend anyone else to give it a try and not feel guilty about needing that space.”
