Body found in a creek near the large Westfield shopping center as police report a crime scene

A body has been found in a creek next to a busy Westfield shopping center in Brisbane as police declare a crime scene.

The body was recovered from Downfall Creek along Murphy Road, near a Westfield shopping center in Chermside, around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Construction workers at a construction site next to the creek are believed to have discovered the body and alerted the police Courier Mail reports.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said they believed it was a man.

“A member of the public reported it to us,” she said.

“The area has now been declared a crime scene.”

Footage from the scene shows a team of firefighters in life jackets standing next to the creek, as well as plainclothes detectives and paramedics.

It is still being investigated whether the death is suspicious.

The public has been asked to avoid the area.
