Cher shares tribute to her Moonstruck director Norman Jewison following his death at age 97: ‘Farewell, sweet prince!’

On Monday, the legendary Cher tweeted a tribute to her Moonstruck director Norman Jewison following his death at the age of 97 last Saturday at his Los Angeles home.

“Goodbye, dear prince,” the 77-year-old pop diva – who has 11.9 million followers on social media – wrote on X.

‘Thank you for one of the greatest, happiest and most enjoyable experiences of my life. Without (you) I wouldn’t have my beautiful golden man. Norman (you) made Moonstruck the great movie. (People), script, actors, etc. need (you) baby. Norman Jewison lives on through his work.’

36 years ago, Cher (born Cherilyn Sarkisian) was 41 when she beat out Sally Field for the role of Brooklyn accountant Loretta Castorini, who begins a whirlwind affair with her fiancé’s brother.

The half-Armenian SoCal native famously threatened to quit the romantic drama if Norman cast Peter Gallagher to play the one-handed baker instead of Nicolas Cage, who at 22 was 19 years her junior.
