Cher Lloyd gives birth! Singer announces birth of second child and reveals baby name in sweet post

Cher Lloyd has given birth to her second daughter.

The former X Factor singer announced the happy news on Instagram on Monday, writing that she has named her baby Eliza Violet.

She wrote that her daughter was born on Saturday and received many congratulations in the comments section.

The announcement comes after Cher revealed she ‘burst into tears’ after being diagnosed with gestational diabetes.

The 29-year-old singer, who now has two children with husband Craig Monk, “got the call last week” and felt “scared, confused and immediately blamed myself.”

Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar that can develop at any time during pregnancy, but is more common in the second or third trimester and usually goes away after the baby is born.

Taking to Instagram, the former X Factor star, who finished fourth on the talent show in 2010, opened up about her diagnosis and called for support.

Cher wrote: “I got a call last week to tell me I had gestational diabetes. I burst into tears. I felt scared, confused and immediately blamed myself.

Emotions running high: Cher previously revealed she ‘burst into tears’ after being diagnosed with gestational diabetes

‘I’ve spent most of my time researching gestational diabetes and finding recipes and ways to control it.

‘I’m still getting used to the changes and how it may affect the rest of my pregnancy.

‘I just wanted to reach out to other mums with gestational diabetes who share advice, stories and suggestions. Send love.”

Cher announced on Instagram in April that she is expecting her second child with husband Craig.

She posted an adorable video showing her ultrasound scan alongside a knitted white baby set and a gray beanie as she shared her baby news.

Alongside the sweet video, she wrote: ‘Baby number 2, we can’t wait to meet you.’

Cher and her hairdresser husband Craig already share daughter Delilah-Rae, four, who they welcomed in May 2018.

In January 2018, Cher announced her first pregnancy, speaking about her excitement about becoming a parent with her husband Craig.

Cher posted a photo of her bump on Instagram and told fans that she had “taken some time away from the public eye to focus on what really matters and get back to what I really love to do.”

She shared: ‘I’m so happy to announce that I now have a collection of amazing new songs (that I can’t wait to share with you all!), but there’s also another reason why I’m writing to you today and that is because I am extremely happy to inform you all that my husband Craig and I are also expecting our first child in May!!!’

Cher and her husband Craig surprised fans when they tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in November 2013.

She now looks worlds away from her time on The X Factor, where she was known for her voluminous hairstyles and dramatic eye make-up.

Despite a brilliant start to the competition, things went downhill for Cher as her alleged tantrums behind the scenes led to her being labeled Britain’s most ‘hated teenager’, with judge Louis Walsh even calling her ‘too big for her boots’ mentioned.

Cher finished in fourth place on the show and following her stint on the X Factor, she released her first single Swagger Jagger, followed by her debut album Sticks and Stones.

After becoming one of the most promising stars in the industry, it was announced in 2013 that Cher had parted ways with Syco Records due to creative differences with boss Simon Cowell.

The same year, she secretly married Craig after less than a year of dating, and they soon left for the US to start a new life. A few years later they returned to Britain and welcomed a daughter in May 2018.

Reflecting on her “diva” persona during her time on the show, Cher told Fabulous magazine in 2012: “I was an animal! Everyone hated me.

‘I was young and foolish. Part of me tried to show that I was strong enough to do it, but then I think it all became too much.

‘I was angry at the way I was being edited and it turned me into a terrible person, with a terrible attitude.’

What is gestational diabetes?

Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar (glucose) that occurs during pregnancy and usually disappears after delivery.

It can occur at any stage of pregnancy, but is more common in the second or third trimester.

It happens when your body can’t produce enough insulin – a hormone that helps control blood sugar levels – to meet your extra needs during pregnancy.

Gestational diabetes can cause problems for you and your baby during pregnancy and after birth. But the risks can be reduced if the condition is detected early and managed properly.
