Danielle plays Mamie Till-Mobley, whose 14-year-old son, Emmet, was murdered while visiting family in Mississippi after allegedly flirting with a white woman.

It was Mamie’s decision to have an open casket funeral that woke up much of the US and the world to the atrocities taking place in the Jim Crow South. The film focuses on her journey as a civil rights advocate.

The Atlanta native has already won awards for her performance at the Gotham Awards, the Philadelphia Film Festival, and the Santa Barbara Film Festival. She seems like a sure bet for more nominations and awards as the season heats up.
