And Edwards isn't her first younger man. In the 1980s, the If I Could Turn Back Time hitmaker dated Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer and Rob Camilletti – all of whom are more than a decade younger than her.

But despite the obvious success of her current relationship, she didn't enter into it lightly because at the time she felt she should stop dating younger men.

'I told my friends: don't fall in love with a younger man, we're too old. And don't fall in love with text messages. There goes that theory,” she admitted to Dimoldenberg.

The Mamma Mia star met Edwards at Paris Fashion Week and fell in love with him over text messages.

“I was leaving to go to Switzerland and he texted me, 'Where are you going?' I said, 'I'm going to Switzerland. I'm a little tired,' and then he wrote me, 'Well, rest, baby,' with three Y's,” she said.

“And I'm like, 'He doesn't know me well enough to give three Y's to the baby.' I was a little pissed. And then he just started texting me.”

When asked what she likes most about Edwards, the Baby Don't Go singer praised his sense of style.

“I've never dated anyone who was a terrible dresser,” Cher noted. “Alexander is the best dresser.”
