Chelsea admit that any Stamford Bridge redevelopment won’t be finished until at least 2030, whether they weigh five years renting elsewhere or a lengthy stand-by-stand rebuild.

  • Chelsea fans were told the stadium expansion wouldn’t be finished until 2030
  • The Blues are ‘exploring all options’ to improve their home at Stamford Bridge
  • They have commissioned co-owner Jonathan Goldstein to investigate an expansion.

Chelsea have told supporters that the Stamford Bridge redevelopment will not be completed until at least 2030.

New owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, who are “in regular contact” with the Chelsea Pitch Owners board of directors, told the Stamford Bridge owner fan group that the stadium expansion would not be completed for seven-and-a-half years. . .

The Blues are “exploring all options” to improve their current home, and expected it would take four to five years to complete a rebuild if the team moves, or much longer if they go for a stand-by-stand renovation.

Todd Boehly has committed to a £1bn renovation of the stadium as they look to expand it to a capacity of 60,000.

Planning permission to expand Stamford Bridge to a capacity of 60,000 expired under the club’s leadership of Roman Abramovich.

Chelsea have tasked co-owner Jonathan Goldstein with turning their sights towards a revamped expansion plan.

Its new owners also want to upgrade the facilities at its Cobham training ground, which opened 15 years ago in 2007.

It was reported in October that Chelsea are aiming to start their plan to rebuild Stamford Bridge within the next year, according to Goldstein.

He said: ‘We are looking very seriously at redevelopment…the planning process is something we will start over the course of the next year and we hope the central government will get behind it and see it as an engine for growth.

“The only problem, of course, is interest rate management because it makes it much more expensive to develop.” Asked if the club would delay the process, he replied: ‘No, no, we’ll keep going as fast and as hard as we can.’

‘It is a great project and there are many voters involved and we are at the beginning. But we will continue because we believe in the business, in Chelsea FC and the area and we know that, in time, Stamford Bridge needs to be redeveloped.”

Stamford Bridge is significantly smaller than the rest of the ‘Big Six’ in the Premier League and previous owner Roman Abramovich had considered a new ground to bring them on a level with their main rivals.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has confirmed his commitment to a massive redevelopment of Stamford Bridge, despite fears the club could move elsewhere.

In December, it was reported that Chelsea had made an offer to acquire a crucial £50m site next to their ground.

Owner Todd Boehly made the offer for the 1.2-acre lot before the official bid deadline passed in early December.

The site is seen as an important step for the club to undertake a £1 billion redevelopment of Stamford Bridge.

Stoll put most of his two-acre site up for sale in October. Chelsea is keen to grab the land as her expansion plans are hampered by the fact that Stamford Bridge is heavily fenced in by buildings and railway lines.
