That victorious tournament six years ago saw the birth of a crop of stars who have made it through today as first-team regulars – including Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Fikayo Tomori, Kyle Walker-Peters, Dominic Solanke and Ademola Lookman – so those on their way have come to South America will know what chance they have.

Other notable names in the squad include Tottenham midfielder Alfie Devine, Southampton midfielder Sam Edozie and Man City striker Liam Delap.

Meanwhile, highly acclaimed Leeds United star Darko Gyabi – who has yet to make his England Under-20 debut – has also been selected.

Foster faced mounting uncertainty over which players would be available as he awaited approval from clubs to bring players into the tournament, which opens on May 20.

Three players selected by Foster may be needed for the play-off finals depending on the semi-final results, while others have been used by their clubs in the Premier League, which also followed England’s opening game with Tunisia on May 22 runs.

Manchester United have already informed hosts Argentina that they cannot call up Alejandro Garnacho.

Coventry City duo Callum Doyle and Brooke Norton-Cuffy, on loan from Manchester City and Arsenal respectively, are hoping to gain promotion to the Premier League, and Middlesbrough are also hoping their Aston Villa loanee Aaron Ramsey will recover from injury to take part to the game. -out.

Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards also faces Sheffield Wednesday in the League One semi-final.

Bolton’s Luke Mbete is injured and will miss the squad after returning to his parent club Manchester City.

Foster – who has been in the role since last summer having previously worked with the Three Lions’ U17, U18 and U19 side – will look to emulate Paul Simpson, who masterminded England’s triumph in 2017.

That was the same year that Foster started working in England’s youth academy, initially as a National Specialist Coach with the U17s – working closely with former age group boss Steve Cooper.

Prior to his time with England, Foster managed Galway United and Dundalk in Ireland.

His success last summer at Under-19 will give the FA confidence that England could do well again at Under-20 level this year. Three players in his current group – Chukwuemeka, Ramsey and Doyle – were all on the scoresheet during their 3-1 win against Israel to lift the trophy.
