Chelsea star Sam Kerr has arrived at Kingston Crown Court ahead of her postponed trial for allegedly racially assaulting a police officer almost two years ago.

The Australian international is said to have insulted, threatened or panicked a police station as she returned home in a taxi after a night out with her fiancé Kristie Mewis on January 30, 2023.

Kerr will plead not guilty when the case goes to trial nearly nine months after the preliminary hearing was canceled.

The footballer will seek to have the charges dismissed on Tuesday in a bid to avoid next month’s trial.

Kerr reportedly branded PC Stephen Lovell a ‘stupid white b*****d’ – with Kerr’s legal representatives denying she used the word ‘bastard’, instead calling the officer a ‘stupid white cop’.

Kerr’s lawyer Grace Forbes previously requested CCTV footage from outside Twickenham police station and inside their custody suite as evidence.

It is understood PC Lovell was called to the scene at Twickenham over a taxi fare dispute after the superstar footballer spent the evening celebrating an FA Cup win over Liverpool – where she scored a hat-trick for Chelsea.

Kerr also reportedly vomited in the taxi and was arrested and interviewed at the time.

Her legal team has argued that Kerr was the victim of an abuse of process after it took a year for her charges to be filed.

The trial begins on February 3 and will last several days, but Kerr – who is in the middle of a long recovery after tearing her ACL in January 2024 – is not required to attend.

As for matters on the pitch, Kerr – who is expecting her first child with fiancé Mewis – is not targeting a return to Chelsea until March at the earliest, Blues head coach Sonia Bompastor has revealed.

‘We might want her back with us [in] February [or] March, not before,” Bompastor told the media last month. “She is still doing her individual process rehabilitation.

“It will take at least two to three months before she is fit enough to be part of the team.”
