Chelsea ‘put the breaks on £20m Tyler Adams move as neither Leeds nor the Blues could come to an agreement’ – after midfield target Moises Caicedo has ‘second thoughts’ about a £111m move to Liverpool

Chelsea’s £20m move for Tyler Adams collapses as ‘neither Leeds nor the Blues can come to an agreement’ – after midfield Moises Caicedo has ‘second thoughts’ about a £111m move to Liverpool

Talks between Chelsea and Leeds over the transfer of Tyler Adams have broken down after the parties failed to reach an agreement, according to reports.

The Blues had triggered the USMNT midfielder’s £20 million release clause and it was thought they were preparing for the player’s West London medical.

Mauricio Pochettino is keen to strengthen his squad’s midfield ahead of the start of the season – which kicks off against Liverpool on Sunday – and the 24-year-old is also determined to move away from relegated Yorkshire.

But according to Sky Sports newsAdams is now expected to return to the Whites with neither club able to reach an agreement for the player.

The news comes in the wake of the turbulence surrounding a proposed UK record move for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

The Ecuadorian midfielder has been closely watched by Chelsea during the transfer window, despite the Seagulls signing the talented 21-year-old to a new contract in February this year.

The West London club submitted a number of offers for the South Coast outfit, but Brighton stuck to their £100 million valuation for their talent.

Things came to a head on Thursday night, however, when Liverpool cut the prospect from The Blues with a £11 million bid for Caicedo’s asking price – which Brighton accepted.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference at Stamford Bridge, Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp confirmed an agreement had been reached between the two clubs, but Caicedo is yet to agree personal terms.

The player is now believed to be in doubt about a move to Anfield, with his heart reportedly set on joining Pochettino’s set-up at Stamford Bridge.

Caicedo and his representatives are still in the capital, despite a medical examination in Liverpool scheduled for Friday afternoon.

Should Liverpool’s transfer to Caicedo fall through, it would be the final blow to Klopp’s midfield plans after he failed to secure a £50 million deal for Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

The German boss also faces a gaping hole in his midfield following the summer departures of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.

Adams only joined Leeds a season ago after moving from RB Leipzig but was unable to find his form at Elland Road during the Whites’ chaotic campaign.
