Chelsea have seen a £35m offer for Manchester City youngster Cole Palmer turned down by the Premier League champions.
The Blues’ interest in the striker emerged on Wednesday after days of reports linking the club to the likes of Brennan Johnson, Ansu Fati and even Emile Smith Rowe as they search for yet another promising striker.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have now rejected their opening bid, according to The Guardian Jacob Steinberg.
Palmer got off to a flying start this season, scoring in the Community Shield and the European Super Cup after playing a part in England’s win at the European Under-21 Championship.
But following City’s penalty shootout success against Sevilla in Greece, boss Pep Guardiola cast doubt on the youngster’s future at the club, admitting he was unsure where his future lay.

“The opinion I had when he arrived was that he wanted to leave, but now I don’t know what’s going to happen.” he told reporters. “I don’t think there will be a loan. He stays or will sell, but I don’t think a loan will come about.’
“I understand that he wants to be more active than last season.
“But Riyad (Mahrez) is gone, so we still have a place there. I can’t say anything, because of course all decisions have to be made by the club. The club must decide what is best. We’re all going to do it together.’
Since these comments, the club has welcomed new £55 million signing Jeremy Doku who could block Palmer’s path to the first team.
Indeed, the star was an unused substitute in the Premier League champions’ last two games, appearing for just ten minutes against Burnley on opening night.
Chelsea are likely to return with a second bid for the winger, who has also attracted interest from West Ham and Sheffield United. Although the Stamford Bridge team are under pressure to finalize a deal ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.
