Chelsea hope to discover the severity of N’Golo Kante’s hamstring injury on Tuesday after he was forced off against Tottenham.

Midfielder Kante was one of Chelsea’s standout performers in Sunday’s 2-2 draw before he had to be substituted in the 84th minute after pulling up.

Following the game, concerned manager Thomas Tuchel said: ‘Seems like another muscle injury and a hamstring. He said he feels it pretty strong so no good news.’

The Frenchman underwent initial tests on Monday and is set for another scan on Tuesday.

The early hope is that the injury is not as bad as feared and Kante will not be as sidelined for as long as was first expected. Reports in France claimed he is facing three to four weeks out.

The World Cup winner saw his 2021/22 campaign disrupted by a string of injury and illness issues.

And Tuchel admitted last season that Chelsea need to find a way of getting and keeping Kante fit.

Tuchel said: ‘He is our key, key player but key, key players have to be on the pitch and he only plays 40% of games. He is our Mo Salah, (Virgil) van Dijk. He is our Kylian Mbappe.

‘This is huge for us to solve it. It’s a fact we miss him a lot and he brings something unique in world football. He can lift everybody up and make the difference.’
