Chelsea leading the chase for Kobbie Mainoo if he leaves Manchester United

Chelsea are leading the race to sign Kobbie Mainoo if he has to leave Manchester United.

The United star has two and a half years left on his contract at Old Trafford but is believed to be in a stalemate over a new deal with the club despite his stratospheric rise in the past 12 months.

Mainoo had emerged as one of the key names on Man United’s team sheet in the latter stages of Erik ten Hag’s reign at the club, having come through the ranks.

The youngster even broke into the England squad and played an important role for Gareth Southgate at the European Championship in the summer of 2024.

Mainoo even earned his place on the Golden Boy shortlist, an award given to youth players in Europe’s top leagues who have performed on the biggest stages despite their age.

The 19-year-old suffered an injury earlier this season and saw his minutes managed by head coach Ruben Amorim before putting in a superb performance in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.
