Chelsea have launched a shock investigation into Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, reports claim, as his future at Old Trafford becomes increasingly uncertain.
Garnacho appeared to have fallen out of contention under head coach Ruben Amorim, but started in United’s wins over Arsenal and Southampton last week.
However, according to The Athleticsthe Blues have now had early discussions about the 20-year-old as they mull a dive this month.
United head coach Ruben Amorim has expressed his desire to keep Garnacho at the club and recently praised him for adapting to his system.
However, almost the entire United squad is effectively on the chopping block due to the club’s dire financial situation, raising the prospect that the wideman could be sacked in the next two weeks if his valuation is met.
Garnacho was said to have been the subject of a £40million bid from Napoli but this was reportedly rejected, with other clubs in Europe likely to be in the mix.

He graduated from United’s famous youth academy after being signed from Atletico Madrid and made 117 appearances for the club, scoring 23 goals.
Garnacho has already scored eight goals this season after making 31 appearances.
“I think he’s changed the way he sees himself,” Amorim said.
“He finds the best way to play in this system and improves in training.
“He improves a lot in the recovery position when he doesn’t have the ball. But that sometimes means he isn’t in the right place to make transitions like he has in the past.’
As exclusively revealed by MailsportGarnacho was left off entirely for United’s derby win over Manchester City in December after angering Amorim, but has since fought his way back into the starting XI despite off-field speculation.
Crucially, any sale would mean pure profit on United’s books and could allow the club to enter the transfer market before it finally closes on February 3.
Chelsea have also reportedly held talks over Borussia Dortmund talent Jamie Gittens as they look to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s options on the wings.

Gittens, also 20, has been with Dortmund since 2020 but is having a sensational breakthrough season after scoring seven goals in 18 games.
He is under contract until 2028 but is said to be the subject of keen interest from several potential suitors, including Dortmund’s Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.
The youngster joined Manchester City’s youth academy in 2018 after starting his career at Reading, but followed in Jadon Sancho’s footsteps after moving to Dortmund.
His senior debut came in April 2022 and Gittens has made 83 appearances in all competitions to date, scoring 16 goals.
Chelsea’s interest in Garnacho and Gittens comes after it was revealed that PSG were monitoring Christopher Nkunku, who is under contract until June 2029.
Maresca previously emphasized that Nkunku was ‘absolutely not’ for sale, but he has scored fifteen goals in 41 games for Blauw-Zwart so far, mainly as a substitute.
He signed a six-year contract after joining from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023.
