The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Thursday announced its 10-man shortlist for the 2024 African Player of the Year award.
Right-back Achraf Hakimi of Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain were among the nominees, as were Nigeria and Atalanta striker Ademola Lookman.
Ivory Coast and Brighton winger Simon Adingra was the only Premier League player to make the list, which also included Amine Gouiri, Edmond Tapsob, Chancel Mbemba, Serhou Guirassy, Soufiane Rahimi, William Troost-Ekong and Ronwen Williams.
Among the star names who missed out on a nomination were Senegalese Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson and Liverpool’s Egyptian king Mohamed Salah.
Jackson responded to the news of his criticism on his Instagram Story, where he shared a message from journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Romano had initially uploaded a photo of Salah, alongside the words: ‘Some players have been ELIMINATED from the list for the 2024 African Player of the Year released today…
‘Mo Salah, Mohammed Kudus, Brahim Diaz, Victor Boniface and Nicolas Jackson.’
In addition to reposting Romano’s message, Jackson also added a few words of his own.
The 23-year-old asked: ‘What happened @CAF_online’?
Jackson scored 17 goals in 44 games for Chelsea last season, but scored just one goal in 12 international games for Senegal in 2024.
