England fans responded to the announcement of Lee Carsley’s second selection with a mixture of reviews, while Chelsea supporters were furious that Jadon Sancho had not been selected, while others were impressed by the firm choices made by the interim head coach.

Carsley – who has been tipped to take the Three Lions job permanently – named his second squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Greece and Finland on Thursday.

The Three Lions have changed a lot from their Euro 2024 failure with the announcement of Carsley’s first selection since becoming Gareth Southgate’s interim successor, and he has made bolder decisions with his second selection.

Eberechi Eze and Harry Maguire are the most notable dropouts, with the Manchester United defender becoming a casualty of the national team after Erik ten Hag had his playing time reduced.

Meanwhile, Eze was dropped from the national team squad due to early-season attacking talent problems in a Crystal Palace team that finds itself in the Premier League relegation zone.

There was also no place in the team for Spurs creator James Maddison or Aston Villa striker Morgan Rogers, despite both starting the new English top-flight season strongly.

Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke was chosen for his first England squad in seven years after impressing since joining from Bournemouth in the summer, while there were also recalls for Walker, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden who missed the final squad due to injury or illness.

However, there was no room for Sancho, who has provided three assists in as many games since leaving Manchester United for Chelsea. Blues fans are unhappy that he has been overlooked.

A third post, furious at Sancho not being picked, added: ‘Jadon Sancho deserves to play in the England national team BUT I’m glad he will be fully rested for the game against Liverpool after the break .’

There was similar criticism from Aston Villa fans who were angry at seeing Rogers missed out, with one commenting on

Further sentiments followed when a message was added in response: ‘Bit of bad luck for the likes of Rogers considering the form Aston Villa are in and how he’s playing. Probs would also have given Maddison the recall to the team, but that’s beside the point. I like it.’

However, some were more encouraging with their comments, such as one fan who posted on X: ‘Nice team, that. MGW [Morgan Gibbs-White] instead of Rogers, Eze or Maddison is interesting.’
