Chelsea have failed to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen despite making a ‘last minute offer’.

Mail Sport reported earlier this week that Al-Ahli had postponed a £55million bid for Osimhen, while the Blues had also raised the stakes to land their long-held target.

Representatives of the west London club travelled to Naples on Friday but were unable to conclude a deal with the player.

According to Sky SportChelsea made a final offer to the Nigerian with just minutes to go before the deadline, but have yet to receive a response.

It looked like Saudi club Al-Ahli wanted to sign Osimhen, but instead they turned their attention to Ivan Toney, who looks set to complete his move to the Middle East.

Osimhen, whose contract with the Serie A club expires in 2026, was reportedly hoping for a staggering £500,000-a-week salary.

Interestingly, his agent, Roberto Calenda, posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter) earlier this week, in response to attempts to sign the striker away from Napoli.

Calenda wrote: ‘Osimhen is a Napoli player and his contract has recently been extended to mutual satisfaction.

“He made history and when there were big offers (also this year) we always accepted the club’s decisions. As I said, he is not a package to send far away to make room for new prophets.

‘Victor was voted African Footballer of the Year, eighth in the Ballon d’Or, he still has so much to do in Europe. There has to be respect and balance.’

Nigerian international Osimhen scored 76 goals in 133 games for Napoli.

A transfer to Saudi Arabia may still be possible, as the transfer window there is open until September 2.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are set to bolster their attacking line with the loanee of Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.
