Chelsea eyeing three new signings before the end of the window with Conor Gallagher headed for the exit door and Alfie Gilchrist out on loan

  • Chelsea are planning to do a lot of business this summer
  • The club is targeting three players before the transfer window closes
  • New manager Enzo Maresca wants to expand the team’s attacking options

Manchester are close to reaching an agreement to sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for £70million.

The transfer will allow Atlético to sell striker Samu Omorodion to Chelsea for around £35m, a deal that is separate from the £33.7m sale of Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher will be in Madrid on Tuesday to sign a five-year contract with Atlético after agreeing the move on Monday morning.

Chelsea are also trying to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli, while young defender Alfie Gilchrist is on loan at Sheffield United.

Chelsea are also in the process of making a £20m move for Gremio midfielder Gabriel Mec (16).

The Blues are in talks with Atletico over a possible transfer of Omorodion, which would expand Enzo Maresca’s attacking options.

Omorodion is part of the Spanish squad for the Olympic Games and scored in the group stage against Egypt.

Other clubs interested in the attacker include AC Milan, Roma, Napoli, Nottingham Forest and West Ham.

Omorodion joined Atlético in August 2023, signing a five-year contract.

He was then loaned to Granada, where he scored eight goals in 34 LaLiga games.

Chelsea told Gallagher it was best for the youth product to move on, with the midfielder set to sign a five-year contract with Atletico.

Gallagher was open to staying at Chelsea but wanted a longer contract than the one he was offered: a two-year deal with an option for a further year.

The London club are also in talks with Napoli over a deal that could see striker Victor Osimhen join, while Romelu Lukaku could join the Serie A club.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for Osimhen in recent seasons as the Nigerian international excelled in Italy.

Chelsea are also keen to offload Lukaku on a permanent basis, having loaned the Belgian out for the past two seasons.

Osimhen has made a huge impact at Napoli since joining from Lille for a club record £80million in 2020.

The striker has scored 76 goals in 133 games for the club and played a key role in their Serie A title in the 2022-23 season.

Osimhen signed a new contract in December, extending his deal with Napoli until 2026.

The deal saw Osimhen receive a significant pay rise, while his release clause was reportedly increased to €130m (£113m).
