Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys is loaned to Swansea City on transfer deadline day.

The 20-year-old has yet to feature in the Premier League for Chelsea, but he did make his first season start for the Blues in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup victory over League Two Wimbledon.

In the second half of last season he was loaned to the German second division team Paderborn, where he played thirteen times for the club.

Now, however, Humphreys will move to Liberty Stadium, where he will wear number 33, after the Swans fended off interest from Stoke City.

The defender was part of the England under-19 squad that won the European Championships in 2022 and also played a starring role in the FIFA U-20 World Cup this summer.

The Blues secured the player’s long-term future with a new four-year contract, including an additional 12-month option for the highly regarded defender.

Stoke, who beat Rotherham 6-1 in their Carabao Cup mid-week victory, were keen to bolster their defensive options with Swansea, hoping to get hold of Josh Tymon before the end of the deadline.

The Potters have had a mixed start to their championship campaign, with three wins and two losses in their first five games.
