Chelsea ‘contemplating move for Tyler Adams’ with Leeds star ‘shortlisted by Mauricio Pochettino’ to bolster their limited options in midfield
- Chelsea fell short in midfield this summer after a number of exits
- Mauricio Pochettino would like to solve this problem before the start of the season
- Tyler Adams has reportedly been added to a shortlist led by Moises Caicedo
Chelsea have reportedly added Tyler Adams to a shortlist of options to bolster their limited options in midfield.
The Blues have been briefly in the center of the park, following the exits of Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Mason Mount this summer.
Mauricio Pochettino could only include six midfielders in his squad for their US tour, with Conor Gallagher and Enzo Fernandez the only two senior options available.
It’s no secret that Brighton star Moises Caicedo is Chelsea’s main target, although the Blues turned down an £80 million bid for the 21-year-old last week.
The times have now reported that US international Adams is also on Pochettino’s shortlist.
Chelsea are reportedly considering a transfer of Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams this summer
Adams was a bright spot for Leeds in a disappointing season, and his absence through injury in the final months of the season was a major blow as they were relegated from the top flight.
Adams is said to have an escape clause in his contract that would come into effect after Leeds failed to escape the Premier League slump last season.
However, the USA captain is currently recovering from a hamstring injury that required surgery in March.
He is not expected to be fit for the start of Leeds’ Championship campaign, which kicks off against Cardiff on August 6.
Adams was one of Leeds’ bright spots in a disappointing season and his absence was felt in the final months of the season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team has fallen short due to a number of failures in midfield
The midfielder, who has won 36 caps for his country, joined Leeds for £20 million last summer after three years at RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
His release clause, according to the Athleticis also estimated to be around £20 million.
Chelsea are also reportedly considering other midfield targets, including Ajax’s Edson Alvarez and Gabri Viega of LaLiga side Celta Vigo.
The Blues could use some experience with the six midfielders on their US tour, Fernandez, Gallagher, Carney Chukwuemeka, Lewis Hall, Andrey Santos and Cesare Casadei – averaging just 7.6 starts in the Premier League.
Chelsea have agreed a £23.5 million deal with Rennes for France under-19 international Lesley Ugochukwu, although Pochettino has indicated the incoming midfielder has been bought with a view to an initial departure at
“My information is that he is a player who comes from France and who may have signed with the idea of loaning him to another club, but that information was already on your laptop.”
“There’s nothing too much to say.”
