Chelsea are considering moving closer to Brighton for midfielder Moises Caicedo as they struggle to fill the void left by N’Golo Kante’s injury.

After failing in an attempt to award Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez, the Blues are reviewing other names on their wish list.

However, Brighton will not be selling the 21-year-old Caicedo cheap.

Caicedo impressed during his international service with Ecuador in the 2022 World Cup, as well as during the Gaviotas’ stellar start to the current campaign.

The 21-year-old, who joined Brighton in February 2021, has three years left on his contract at Amex.

Brighton previously suggested they had no plans to sell, although a high price would likely encourage them to let Caicedo walk.

In September, Brighton boss Graham Potter said £42m could get Caicedo’s boots, but he has now taken over at Chelsea.

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber said last week that the Seagulls have yet to receive an offer for Caicedo, amid interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.

Chelsea are looking to strengthen themselves in midfield as the Blues have been hampered by the long-term injury suffered by Kante.

The French star has now been playing since October after picking up a hamstring injury, with an expectation that he will return in late February or early March.

Despite the injury, Chelsea are in talks with Kante to extend his contract beyond the end of this season.

Chelsea turned to Caicedo after Benfica boss Roger Schmidt declared their search for Fernández “closed”.

The £112m child prodigy played a starring role in Argentina’s World Cup success in Qatar.

Chelsea also maintain an interest in Real Madrid youngster Rafa Marín, although they expect a deal to be difficult to achieve.

Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram is also coveted, along with an extra reinforcement at right-back.
