Salomon Kalou played for Chelsea between 2006 and 2012, scoring 60 goals in 254 games

And now Salomon Kalou has come out of retirement and started playing for SC Gagnoa, a club in the second division of Ivory Coast.

The former Ivory Coast international made a surprise move to Djiboutian club Arta Solar 7 two years ago, where he played alongside former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Alex Song.

Arta’s Ivorian president Tommy Tayoro Nyckoss took over the reins of SC Gagnoa last month and has now convinced Kalou to join the club as a player and director.

Kalou said: ‘I’m going to get a player’s license so I can be part of coach Bernard Casoni’s squad.

‘And maybe if SC Gagnoa plays against ASEC Mimosas or Africa Sports in the Ivorian Cup, I’ll play.’

SC Gagnoa were relegated from the Ivory Coast top division last season and are keen to gain promotion this season.
