Chelsea 5-0 Barrow PLAYER RATINGS: Whose finish was Zola-esque? Which new signing struggled early on? And who was a class apart?

Enzo Maresca made 11 changes to his Chelsea team for Tuesday night’s clash with Barrow and his £416million B-team did not disappoint, finishing 5-0 in the Carabao Cup.

Mail Sport’s AADAM PATEL was on hand at Stamford Bridge to assess the players’ performances. One Chelsea forward scored a goal reminiscent of Blues legend Gianfranco Zola, while another produced a top-class performance.

However, it did not go smoothly for everyone, with one midfielder struggling at the start and Ben Chilwell making his first appearance of the season.

Chelsea can now focus on Premier League fixtures again as they prepare for their clash against Brighton on Saturday, before European fixtures begin in the days that follow.

But first they can enjoy a successful evening at the Bridge, where a number of Blues stars will shine throughout the match.

Chelsea (4-2-3-1)

Filip Jorgensen – 7

Chelsea made 11 changes after their win over West Ham, but still had a starting XI that cost more than £400 million. The 22-year-old Danish-Swedish goalkeeper didn’t have much to do, but did what was expected of him when called upon and his remarkably long throw attracted attention.

Malo Gusto – 7.5

He returned to the team after injury and showed his class in the first half, providing a lovely assist for Nkunku’s second, taking a solid first touch before delivering a low cross. He won the free kick for the third goal and was generally too good down the right flank before being replaced by Ben Chilwell at half-time. Always a joy to watch.

Axel Disasi-7

I doubt he will have many easier days this season and was unlucky not to get on the scoreboard when his header was saved by Paul Farman. Replaced by Joshua Acheampong just after the hour.

Benoit Badiashile – 7

Had a cracking day, with 134 touches on the night – more than any other player and won more aerial battles (five) than anyone else. A solid night at the office for the 23-year-old as Chelsea kept a third clean sheet in a row.

Renato Veiga-8

The Portugal youth international was preferred to Ben Chilwell on the left and justified his start, playing a key role in the opening goal with a linebreaking pass through the centre to Joao Felix. He was also excellent defensively, showing his versatility by coming on at centre-back after the break when Chilwell came on.

Cesare Casadei – 6.5

Did his job with ease against a Barrow midfield that simply couldn’t cope. Offer something attacking and defensive and the Italian will only develop with more playing time.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 6.5

Struggled to get into the game at first but grew in confidence and comfortable in possession without ever showing anything special. Nearly got on the scoreboard with a volley that was superbly saved by the Barrow keeper.

Pedro Neto – 7.5

The insane depth of Chelsea’s squad was summed up by the fact that Neto, who cost Wolves £54m in the summer, was in the starting line-up. He was involved in the second goal with a clever backheel to Gusto and scored his first Chelsea goal with a simple finish early in the second half. A productive night at the office before he was substituted just after the hour mark.

Joao Felix – 9

In a class of his own. His partnership with Nkunku was deadly, starting with a daring lob assist for the opening goal. He had a bit of luck when his free-kick hit the post and went past the Barrow keeper, but it was the least he deserved, having run circles around Barrow all night.

Mykhailo Mudryk – 7

Enzo Maresca called on Mudryk to improve before the match and after a quiet start the Ukrainian showed some bright spots. Kudos to him for his selflessness, as he scored a beautiful goal for Neto and gave himself an assist, although he would have liked to be on the scoreboard.

Christopher Nkunku – 9.5

If Nkunku stays fit he will be deadly. Has six goals in 330 minutes of football for Chelsea this season, an average of one every 55 minutes. Chelsea’s best finisher and showed his class with a brilliant hat-trick. His first goal was well taken and his second was Zola-esque with a flick past the keeper.

And he showed his hunger, dispossessing Farman of the ball and scoring into an empty net to take home the match ball. The Frenchman made just 13 appearances in all competitions last season but has immense quality and could be a force under Maresca.

Nkunku will struggle if he stays fit - he has already scored six goals in 330 minutes of football this season

Substitutes

Ben Chilwell-6

Wasn’t called into the starting line-up but came on at half-time for Gusto, which seemed a pre-match plan from Maresca. It was his first appearance since April and he looked confident, albeit against weak opponents.

Tyrique George – 6

The 18-year-old came on for the final half hour, playing on the right flank, and should have scored his first Chelsea goal of the season, but somehow sent a shot wide from a few yards out, with only the keeper able to get past him.

Joshua Acheampong – 6

Another 18 year old who came on as a replacement for Disasi for the last half hour and played at right back. Is seen as one of the highly regarded talents coming out of Cobham, alongside George.
