Cheeky Prince Charles of Luxembourg celebrates third birthday

Prince Louis delighted fans over coronation weekend with his cheeky antics, but anyone missing his fixation of the vivacious youngster will be happy to know he has a royal rival.

Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and his wife Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie have shared adorable snaps to mark the third birthday of their eldest son Prince Charles, who was born during the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic.

Snaps shared with Instagram shows the young person eating his birthday cake and giving pieces to his parents.

And in another family snap taken with his younger brother, Prince François, who was born in March, the little prince is happily tucking into a chocolate chip cookie.

In another series of snaps, the young royal family proved he has quite a sweet tooth, as he was pictured eating his royal cake — a fruity strawberry spectacle — with these parents.

One particularly beautiful photo showed Stephanie cradling Prince François, nestled in a white cloth, as she gazed lovingly into the eyes of Prince Charles, who held a biscuit as his father Guillaume carried it on his shoulders.

They took a more traditional approach for another photo, with both parents sitting down and Prince Charles sitting on his father’s lap while Prince François slept in his mother’s arms.

There were also several individual photos of Prince Charles celebrating his birthday.

For the occasion, Charles was dressed in a wool sweater with jacquard details, a small crew-neck shirt and jeans.

The adorable king showed his little teeth as he smiled happily for the camera on his big day.

And if the tuft of cream on the corner of his mouth is any indication, the royal family quite liked his birthday cake.

One moment revealed that Charles shared the treat with his parents and even gave his father Guillaume pieces of cake.

In another flash, Stephanie was beaming as she hugged the newborn prince who was completely calm during the photo shoot.

Following François’s birth on March 30, the court released a statement saying: “Their Royal Highnesses the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess are pleased to announce the birth of their son at the Maternité Grande-Duchesse Charlotte in Luxembourg on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 10:04 am.

‘The newborn prince will be called François Henri Luis Marie Guillaume. It weighs 3,575 kg and measures 53 cm.

“Princess Stéphanie and her child are safe and sound.

“The Crown Prince, the Crown Princess and his brother Prince Charles look forward to introducing Prince François to you.”

The Marshal of the Court also added that the birth would be recognized with a 21-gun salute and that members of the public could sign a digital book of congratulations or a book in the guardhouse of the Grand Ducal Palace.

François is third in line to the throne after his father Prince Guillaume and his brother Prince Charles, three.

Prince Guillaume shared his joy at the birth of his second son in an interview earlier this week, saying: “It is always a very happy moment when something like this happens in a family.

The birth of Prince François went very well and his mother is doing well.

“It is now a great pleasure for us to be able to hold this little baby in our arms.

‘He’s already so sweet. It really is one of the most beautiful moments a family can share.”

The couple welcomed their first child, Prince Charles, at the height of the pandemic in May 2020 and he was first introduced to his grandparents, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, via video call.

When the couple announced last year that they would have a second child, they told RTL that Charles was ‘very happy’.

“He’s said, ‘Mommy, baby!’ since a few weeks it’s cute,” Princess Stephanie added.
