OpenAI revealed on Friday that a bug exposed some ChatGPT users’ personal information and credit card information to others using the service.
The bug was spotted on Monday, when a “small percentage” of users were able to see chat titles in their own conversation history that didn’t belong to them this week – but the problem runs much deeper than previously thought.
OpenAI said on Friday, “It was possible for some users to see the first and last name, email address, payment address, last four digits (only) of a credit card number, and credit card expiration date of another active user. ‘
The announcement stated 1.2 percent of ChatGPT Plus subscribers. The San Francisco-based company has about 100 million users, but it’s not clear how many pay for the service.
News of the leak offset OpenAI’s massive upgrade to ChatGPT, giving it access to the internet to provide users with real-time data.

ChatGPT was founded in 2015 in Silicon Valley by a group of American angel investors, including current CEO Sam Altman.

People all over the world have used the platform to write human-like poems, lyrics and various other written works.
On Monday, a person on Twitter warned others to “be careful” of the chatbot that had shown them other people’s conversation topics.
An image of their listing showed a number of titles, including “Girl Chases Butterflies,” “Books on human behavior,” and “Boy Survives Solo Adventure,” but it was unclear which of those weren’t theirs.
They said, ‘If you’re using #ChatGPT, be careful! There is a risk that your chats will be shared with other users!
“Today I was shown another user’s chat history. I couldn’t see the content, but I could see the titles of their recent chats.”

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, confirmed on Wednesday that the company was experiencing a “significant issue” that threatened the privacy of conversations on its platform.
The bug, which has been patched, was discovered in the Redis client open source library, redis-py.
“We believe the number of users whose data has actually been revealed to someone else is extremely low,” Open AI shared in the announcement.
While the company works to ensure the security of its users’ data, it helps improve their ChatGPT experience.
The company introduced plug-ins that allow the chabot to interact with the Internet and third-party websites, allowing users to view sports scores, stock quotes, dinner reservations and more.
The first plugins for ChatGPT were created by Expedia, FiscalNote, Instacart, KAYAK, Klarna, Milo, OpenTable, Shopify, Slack, Speak, Wolfram, and Zapier.
Micrsofot’s Bing API also includes a new plug-in, which allows ChatGPT to search for up-to-date information on the web.
Industry experts praise the upgrade, saying ChatGPT will “make thousands of websites completely obsolete.”
