The Charlotte Hornets will interview ESPN analyst JJ Redick for their head coaching job, according to sources, as the retired NBA star eyes a role on a team’s bench next season amid his rising popularity thanks to his podcast with Lebron James.
Redick, who became an on-air analyst for ESPN shortly after retiring in 2021, has “expressed interest in making a coaching leap in recent years,” according to The Athletic’s senior NBA insider Shams Charania.
The 15-year NBA veteran is currently one of two cohosts along with James on their podcast Mind the Game, where the pair have “wallet conversations about basketball.”
Together, James and Redick have released six episodes, with the last coming out on April 17, three days before the start of the NBA playoffs.
