A man alleges his girlfriend tried to run him over with her car because she asked for a hot chip, a court has heard.

Matthew Finn made the extraordinary claim at Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, where his partner Charlotte Harrison, 42, faced a bail hearing on charges of aggravated endangerment and reckless or dangerous driving.

Finn told the court he made the mistake of ordering and getting a chip from Harrison’s chicken and salad packet while the two were in their Subaru traveling down busy Melbourne Street in north Adelaide on Sunday afternoon.

“I shouldn’t have asked for the chip,” Finn told Nine News outside of court.

“I had a chip and she stopped and asked me to come out.”

Matthew Finn (pictured right) accused his partner Charlotte Harrison (pictured left) of trying to run him over because he asked for a hot chip from his takeout package.

Harrison denied the allegations in court, saying she came to Finn’s aid that day because he called her to say he wasn’t feeling well.

She said she was taking him to the hospital, but on the way he assaulted her in the vehicle and forced her to stop to let him out, the court heard.

Ms Harrison’s public defender said she “did not intend to harm” Mr Finn but accidentally stepped on the accelerator while trying to make a U-turn on her way to notify police, the Adelaide Advertiser reported. .

The car finally collided with another vehicle that was traveling in the opposite direction.

“She saw him run away, he tried to make a U-turn to go to the Norwood police station,” his attorney on duty told the court.

“She mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake and then hit the post as described in the CCTV footage.

“It is accepted that when viewing the CCTV footage it could appear that there was an attempt to endanger the life of the complainant.”

The public defender told the court that Ms Harrison had told him that she had allegedly been assaulted by Mr Finn earlier and that he was a drug user who had spent time in prison.

Ms Harrison’s Subaru crashed into an oncoming car in the busy shopping area of Melbourne St in Adelaide on Sunday.

Ms. Harrison (pictured) told the court that she had picked up Mr. Finn to take him to the hospital when he assaulted her in the car.

Harrison, who fired her first attorney and then briefly represented herself before calling the attorney on duty, told the court she should be released on bail because she “obeyed the police” and “did not flee the scene of the accident. “.

Magistrate Ben Sale said he was concerned that Ms Harrison was a “flight risk” and that the CCTV description of the incident provided by police was “worrying”.

Magistrate Sale ordered a home detention bond inquiry report and said he would likely release her under those orders depending on the report.

Prosecutors have yet to make their allegations.

Ms Harrison will finalize her bail application in court on Friday.
