Charlotte became famous as a classical singer in her youth before switching to pop music in 2005. In 2007, the singer sold more than ten million records worldwide.

Now Charlotte has spoken about the home’s transformation process and her plans for the retreat now that she has finally opened the doors.

Speaking on the latest episode of Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett’s Dish podcast, Charlotte told how she turned the building into a ‘green sanctuary’.

It comes after she recently spoke about the ‘hardcore’ renovation of her £1.5million wellness retreat in Wales and her plans for the project

She explained how the retreat, called The Dreaming, draws power from a hydroelectric plant and has a water heat pump that provides hot water.

She said of the site: “WWe are flanked on either side by two waterfalls. One that has a hydromill, so we get a lot of our energy from the hydromill in the Elan Valley, located in the Cambrian Mountains.

“And it’s just like, oh, it’s so beautiful. I love it so much. I did a renovation on it in the last two years, which was hardcore. But great.

“Like I really had to be really creative and put all my creativity into something completely different than, you know, music or whatever I would generally think I was creative in, I guess.”

Charlotte went on to talk about her own role with The Dreaming, saying she plans to work as a ‘sound healer’, which means ‘singing for the country’.

The former pop star said: ‘I’m a sound healer now, so I do stuff at The Dreaming, which is really about pulling out the thread of how sound can be used for healing, how voice can be used for healing.”

“I want to try to merge this idea of music and healing, and voice and healing, with that joy and ecstasy,” she added.

Speaking about what people can expect when they come to the retreat, Charlotte said people ‘pick and choose’ what activities they do to discover what their body needs.

She continued, “EEverything should suit you very much, it’s like a buffet. You pick and choose. When you get there, you sink into your body and you, and you really start to feel, what does your body need? What do I want to do?

Big plans: Now Charlotte has spoken about the home’s transformation process and her plans for the retreat now that she’s finally opened the doors

‘For some people they just need total radical rest because their nervous system is burned out, for other people they need to explore and be really fascinated by nature, and almost get back to that childlike wonder and awe.

“So it’s connection with nature, sound healing – I’m a practitioner there and I go on sound journeys and I sing for the land.

“And the third pillar of it is ceremony in terms of rituals and ways of being, living very close to the land, and really seasonal.”

Charlotte explained why she decided to set up the retreat, saying that she has been an activist for years and wanted to channel her ‘values’ into her work projects.

She said: ‘I really care about the future and the future of the planet, you know, I really think we can change things and so I wanted to be involved in projects and I wanted to start projects that lived my values. real, and live my activism.

‘We have a water heat pump and we have a hydroelectric power plant, and we are going to set up a huge food growing project.

“So this year we have about an acre and a half of land to grow food on, and in the next two or three years that will grow to about three or four acres.”

As well as her plans for a food growing project, Charlotte said she will also be able to forage in the 35,000 hectares of forest surrounding The Dreaming.

The Voice Of An Angel hitmaker said she has priced the retreat on a ‘sliding scale’ so it isn’t too far out of people’s price ranges.

She said: ‘We have a sliding price range and a ‘pay what you can’ system. So that at every retreat, it’s pay-as-you-go, because I… you know, everyone’s struggling, so I want us to make sure we’re not too bougie.”

Breaks start from £450 for three days, but ‘to provide access to people of all means, The Dreaming offers a ‘pay what you can’ area on every three-day retreat’.

Charlotte is the owner of The Dreaming, located in the Elan Valley in Cwmdauddwr, Powys, and once owned by fashion legend Laura Ashley.

To open the opulent retreat, Charlotte overcame a series of planning battles and construction problems.

Environment and planning chiefs raised particular concerns about its plans to treat and dispose of waste from four proposed log cabins, with the council’s ecology department warning of the shortcomings of many ‘private sewage treatment systems’.

In addition, the withdrawal plans were also opposed last December by its local council, which feared it could pose an ‘unacceptable risk’ to drivers.

A spokesperson said of the resort: ‘The Dreaming offers an escape from the complexities of modern life; connecting people back to the land, to themselves and to their travels.’

The property’s makeover into a green haven was turned into a documentary series on the Discovery Channel – and is finally open to guests.

The retreats last three days and take place on weekends (The Journeyer) and midweek (The Nurturer). During their stay, guests are offered a wide choice of well-being activities.
