Charlise Mutten’s mother has been seen in public for the first time since the nine-year-old alleged murder in January.

Kallista Mutten appeared in Campbelltown local court on Tuesday to be convicted of stealing two guns and ammunition during a home invasion, five months before her fiancé allegedly shot and killed her daughter.

Mutten’s friend Justin Stein, 31, is said to have murdered the schoolgirl on January 11 at his family’s multimillion-dollar property in Mount Wilson, west of Sydney.

Mutten, 39, is not involved in the alleged murder.

He then allegedly put her body in a barrel and drove it around in his red ute before dumping Charlise’s remains at the Colo River.

At the time of the murder, Mutten was reportedly pregnant with Stein’s child.

The 39-year-old pleaded guilty to stealing the firearms, ammunition and a large amount of silverware flatware and tableware – worth less than $60,000 together.

Police accused Stein of murder, released CCTV footage of Stein allegedly driving around with a barrel in the back of his red ute shortly after the girl’s death.

While investigating Charlise’s death, in February, detectives found two firearms and ammunition in bushland near where the schoolgirl disappeared.

After forensic investigation, police determined that the items were allegedly stolen from a Mount Wilson property known as Sylvan Close on Aug. 22 last year.

Stein was charged in May on two counts of possession of an unauthorized firearm, two of possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of unlicensed ammunition. He has yet to make a plea.

Police say Mutten, allegedly accompanied by Stein, broke into a neighbor’s property, taking the guns, ammunition and silverware stored with the weekender.

Mutten reported her daughter went missing in January, sparking a widespread search for the nine-year-old before her body was found.

According to police, the schoolgirl was only in Stein’s care the night she was allegedly murdered.

At the time of the alleged murder, police say Charlise’s mother Kallista Mutten was staying at a caravan park in Lower Portland on the Hawkesbury River, 51 miles from the luxury Mount Wilson estate where Charlise is said to have died.

Police allege that Stein shot and killed the girl on Jan. 11, put her body in a barrel in the back of his red ute, and dumped it 40 miles (65 km) into the Colo River.

His case will go to court later.
