Charli XCX throws subtle shade at Hailey Bieber for her ‘Nepo Baby’ crop top after THAT article

Charli XCX has dropped a subtle hint at Hailey Baldwin over her ‘Nepo Baby’ crop top.

The 26-year-old model, the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin and graphic designer Kennya Baldwin, proudly wore a ‘Nepo Baby’ cropped T-shirt as she stepped out in Los Angeles on Friday.

But singer Charli, 30, has undermined the statement by simply labeling it an ‘attempt’.

She tweeted on Sunday: “I respect the nepo baby t-shirt attempt.”

Hailey’s outfit caused much mixed reaction online, with many labeling him deaf and arguing that Hailey hadn’t outshone her parents’ success like other nepo babies, so the T-shirt made less of a statement.

One said: ‘Hailey Bieber’s nepo baby t-shirt photo gives nothing because she gives… nothing. She’s not likable enough to give this paparazzi shot personality for a viral moment. She does not act or sing. She hops in and out of beige and black YSL cars and has a skincare line.’

Another agreed, writing: “if bella, kylie, gigi etc. wore a nepo baby t-shirt it would be appropriate because they actually created a brand and are busy and didn’t need to depend on a man to be successful as idk.”

And a third repeated: “This Haley girl has the name Baldwin AND the name Bieber and she still has no accomplishments to speak of, maybe she shouldn’t be flaunting a nepo baby t-shirt.”

The term nepo babies was coined online and is used to describe the children of celebrities who easily land in show business, shielded by their parents’ famous names.

Lily-Rose Depp, Maude Apatow and many others were among those who graced the cover of New York Magazine’s The Year of the Nepo Baby.

The one that causes furor Article was published in December and featured other children of the rich and famous who hit the genetic lottery.

Hailey was named at the beginning of the article in which a conversation she had with Gwyneth Paltrow about nepotism was mentioned.

‘Gwyneth Paltrow (daughter of Blythe Danner and Bruce Paltrow) commiserated with Hailey Bieber (daughter of Stephen Baldwin and niece of Alec) on the latter’s YouTube channel: “People are ready to tear you down and say: ‘No belong there,” the article said.

Celebrity nepotism is nothing new, but the insult ‘nepo baby’ has become increasingly popular as a shorthand way of ridiculing it.

During her appearance on Hailey’s YouTube series Who’s In My Bathroom over the summer, Gwyneth said she thinks famous kids don’t have as much of an advantage in Hollywood as some people think.

She said she thinks nepotism babies have to work “twice as hard” once they get their foot in the door to prove themselves because people will say they “don’t belong.”

But Gwyneth also admitted that kids with famous parents can “unfairly” enter the industry and have access to opportunities that other people don’t.

“As someone’s child, you get access that other people don’t, so the playing field isn’t level that way,” he explained.

“However, I really feel that once your foot is in the door, which you unfairly entered, then you almost have to work twice as hard and be twice as good because people are ready to knock you down and say ‘Not you.’ I don’t belong there’ and ‘You’re only there because of your mom or dad,’ or whatever the case may be.’

Giving other babies advice on nepotism, the Goop founder said etiquette shouldn’t ‘limit them’ and urged people not to let others have a ‘negative impact’ on their lives.

She added: “I shouldn’t limit you because what I believe is that no one in the world, especially someone who doesn’t know you, should have a negative impact on your path or the decisions you make.”
