Charli XCX home the Visionary Award at the Ivor Novello Awards

Charli XCX showed off her signature sense of style when she stormed the red carpet at the 2023 Ivor Novello Awards in London on Thursday.

At the ceremony, the 30-year-old singer received the Visionary Award with Amazon Music, as her services to music were recognized by Ivor’s Academy.

Charli put on a very leggy display in a plunging black blazer fastened together with a silver buckle when she arrived at The Grosvenor House Hotel.

She wore her smart jacket over a black mini dress with a plunging lace neckline and a pleated skirt while looking as glamorous as ever.

Charli, who is dating drummer George Daniel from 1975, gave herself a few extra inches with a pair of silver heels.

Wow! Charli XCX showed off her signature sense of style as she stormed the red carpet at the 2023 Ivor Novello Awards in London on Thursday

Winner! At the ceremony, the singer, 30, accepted the Visionary Award with Amazon Music as her services to music were recognized by the Ivor’s Academy

She kept her essentials in a small black handbag and styled her raven-black locks loosely and straight over her shoulders.

The Break The Rules hitmaker amped up her striking features with lots of mascara and a smoky touch of eyeliner.

She joined the star-studded guest list at the Ivor Novello Awards, which welcomed some of the most iconic names in British music.

Sting, James, Harry Styles and Raye were also among the winners of this year’s Ivor Novello Awards.

Former Police frontman Sting performed a special rendition of his song Message in a Bottle at the ceremony as he was honored with the prestigious Fellowship.

He joined Sir Paul McCartney and Kate Bush, among others, in receiving the award

Raye performed Escapism and she and her co-writers 070 Shake and Mike Sabath won Best Contemporary Song for the song.

An emotional Raye burst into tears as she handed over her gong, and she used her acceptance speech to urge major record labels to do more to help songwriters earn more for their work.

She said, “I really fought really hard [for this]… I started my songwriting career when I was 14 years old after school at BRIT’s School … I felt like I just had to be the best I can be. I saw one of these [awards] at 15 and I was like ‘Oh my goodness.’ So this is ridiculous.

“I must take this opportunity to address all major label representatives in this room. It would be an insult to suggest that you go to work for free, it would be an insult to think that songwriters should do the same. It’s time… Songwriters are the beating heart of this industry and it’s time to pay songwriters some respect, I had to take this opportunity to say this.

“Thank you very much to the Ivors Academy.”

Matilda Mann also sang and treated the crowd to a cover of Blondie’s Heart of Glass in honor of Debbie Harry and Chris Stein from the group receiving the Special International Award.

British indie band James – consisting of Tim Booth, Saul Davies, Jim Glennie, Larry Gott and Mark Hunter – won the PRS for Music Icon Award.

Speaking on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony, Tim joked about the honor, “Every day I get up and look in the mirror and say, ‘There goes an icon.’

Emphasizing that the focus for the group is on continuing to make new music and not allowing themselves to become a heritage act only playing their greatest hits on tour, he added, “We’re not looking back. We never listen to our back catalog, we always look ahead.

“We think one of the best records we made was the last record and we continue to be bloodthirsty and we change the set every gig and we play a lot of new songs and our audience gets it and those who don’t and they don’t come and we’re happy about that and we’ve always been happy about that…

“We’ve always been like, ‘People will catch up with great music, so just do your thing and they’ll eventually come to you.’

Other winners included Little Mix, Dua Lipa and Kamille, songwriter of The Saturdays, who was honored with the Outstanding Song Collection award, and Victoria Canal, who won the Rising Star Award with Amazon Music.
