King Charles received biodiversity gifts from an Amazonian tribe at a Dubai hotel and was joined by Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron at the Cop28 summit.

Charles, 75, joined a Commonwealth and Nature reception at the hotel hosted by Commonwealth Secretary-General Baroness Scotland.

Indigenous leaders from various Commonwealth countries were also present alongside the King.

Gwenya Wapicana, 59, president of the indigenous organization FUNAI in Brazil and from the Truaro tribe in Roraima state, presented the king with a hand-decorated wooden bird.

She said that the Arara bird is an indigenous Amazonian bird and is a “symbol of biodiversity” and mimics the human voice.

“He loved the gift very much and I thanked him for everything he has done to help protect biodiversity in the Amazon,” she added.

Baroness Scotland said in a speech that the King’s presence was “delightful and appropriate”.

She said the initiative was “inspired” by the King’s idea to pool the skills and knowledge of Australian Indigenous communities and Canadian scientists.

Both countries have been hit by widespread forest fires.
