King Charles is ‘absolutely devastated’ by ‘what happened’ to Prince Harry and ‘hopes’ for a reconciliation, a royal expert has claimed.
Katie Nicholl, author of The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown, told Fox News DigitalThat the King is heartbroken by the way his relationship with the Duke of Sussex, 38, has changed since his marriage to Meghan Markle.
The royal editor of Vanity Fair, Katie, said: “He is hopeful that there will be a reconciliation. I think we saw that in the very public olive branches that were extended to Harry and Meghan.”

Britain’s King Charles III walked side by side with his son Prince Harry as they arrived at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle for the late Queen’s funeral
Katie explained: “Charles is absolutely devastated by what happened.
“If you think back a few years around the time of the wedding, the relationship between Harry and his father was probably better than ever.”
One of the many challenges the King will face during his reign, including modernizing Britain’s old monarchy, will be how to deal with the Duke and Duchess, who plunged The Firm into crisis after they left their public duties. had given up for a life without royal obligations in California – from which they have leveled a series of damaging allegations against the institution.
In his first address to the nation as monarch, the king appeared to award the couple an “olive branch.” Others, however, believe it was nothing more than a PR bid for unity in the hours following the Queen’s death.
When King Charles shook hands with Prime Minister Liz Truss at their weekly gathering, viewers saw that he had a number of mementos on display, including photos of Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
The photo shown is one of the family on the day of Harry and Meghan’s wedding – which King Charles sees
Leading up to the funeral, Harry was apparently not allowed to wear a military uniform that day, and he and Meghan were reportedly not invited to a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by the King for VIPs, including foreign royalty, prime ministers and presidents.
But hopes of a thaw in the ‘cold war’ between The Firm and the Sussexes arose weeks ago, after royal insiders revealed that King Charles saw ‘tremendous glimmers of hope’ when he spoke to Prince Harry and Meghan at the Queen’s funeral – and even believes that he might even save the relationship with the Duke and Duchess.
The king’s conversations with his son and daughter-in-law at the ceremonies for the late monarch at Westminster Abbey and Windsor Castle gave him hope that he could restore relations with the Sussex after their bitter departure from the royal family.
An insider told The Telegraph: ‘It remains true that the king loves both his children.

“In the past 16 days, there have been huge glimmers of hope. There is hope for unity in the future.’
And it was reported this week that, despite the tension, King Charles may still hold Prince Harry and his wife in high esteem, as eagle-eyed viewers spotted a photo of the couple at Buckingham Palace as he greeted British Prime Minister Liz Truss.
A short clip showed the monarch greeting Prime Minister Liz Truss this week at his royal residence in London for the first of their regular weekly audiences.
And there was a photo on a table in a room there, showing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in Windsor Castle after their wedding in May 2018.
The photo shows the couple surrounded by their bridal party along with Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Charles, Camilla and Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland.
Prince William and Kate were also in the picture with Princess Charlotte and Prince George. Prince Louis wasn’t there, he was born just four weeks earlier
