- Kamala Harris announced last week that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is her choice for vice president
According to Charlamagne tha God, Vice President Kamala Harris should pick a white man for her 2024 election campaign.
The radio host was “disappointed” with Harris’ choice as her running mate, but said she did it to make Americans “feel more comfortable” with a minority woman leading the Democratic ticket.
Charlamagne said Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is Harris’ “DEI hire” — a term often used disparagingly by Republicans to refer to minority hires who they claim are unqualified and selected only to fill a demographic quota.
Harris announced Tuesday that Walz would join her 2024 campaign after narrowing the field of candidates to him and a handful of other white men.
“I just found out about him in the last couple of weeks,” Charlamagne told ABC This Week host Jon Karl. “I was a little disappointed at first. We knew she needed a DEI worker.”

“She needed a white man to make America comfortable,” he continued. “It is what it is.”
“We don’t have to, you know, be crazy about it. We know what it is.”
Others considered for the job before Walz was selected included Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker — all white men.
President Joe Biden, 81, ended his re-election campaign last month after weeks of pressure to step aside in a series of events that began with his disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump.
Biden immediately endorsed Harris and she quickly took over his campaign infrastructure.
Walz, 60, secured her spot as Harris’ running mate during a gathering at the vice president’s residence in Washington, D.C., over the weekend, where she met him, Shapiro and Kelly.
People involved in the selection process say Walz’s modest ego at the number two position won him the job.

“I’m not looking for anything else,” Walz assured Harris during their conversation.
“I’m at the end of my career,” the father of two said, according to a Politico report. “This is not about me. This is about the working families of America.”
Walz and Harris appeared side by side as running mates for the first time Tuesday night at a campaign rally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Since becoming the presumptive Democratic nominee, the vice president has made huge strides in key swing states and now she has her running mate traveling with her.
But Harris has yet to hold a press conference, give an interview or answer a single question from reporters since entering the race for the Resolute Bureau seat.
