LA Chargers president John Spanos has spoken out for the first time following the firing of head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco.

Staley and Telesco were relieved of their duties following Thursday Night Football's disastrous 42-point loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Spanos also shed some light on how the Chargers will view things moving forward as they search for a new head coach and GM.

“I think sometimes it's the misses that help you grow the most — that you can learn the most from,” Spanos said Monday.

“And I think as owners we always have to push ourselves to be better, to be better.”

Spanos is now set to hire his fourth head coach since making his first major hire in 2013, when he and Telesco brought in Mike McCoy as head coach.

“In my opinion, everything starts with ownership, so I think ultimately we are responsible for everything,” Spanos said.

“Looking at these last two hires, we've done some good things. We didn't get where we ultimately wanted to go, but I know we will all learn from it, and do even better next time.

“The commitment to winning and the commitment to doing whatever it takes to get there is as strong as it's ever been and it's really not going away.”

Spanos also said the team will have “no limitations” when it comes to their coaching search, whether it be experience level, salary or otherwise.

He even answered a reporter's question about whether or not the team would be willing to spend $20 to $25 million on a coach, to which Spanos responded by saying he has “never felt or seen any limitations because of money or another reason.'

“I can tell you that there have been no discussions internally about setting a maximum,” he said.

Spanos then continued, “Looking at these last two hires, we've done some good things. We didn't get where we ultimately wanted to go, but I know we will all learn from it, and do even better next time.
