While a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars is expected, the Los Angeles Chargers will face a series of injuries that will make that task a bit more difficult.

Most notable among them is starting quarterback Justin Herbert, who tore his costal cartilage late in last Thursday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The team officially called him doubtful for Sunday’s game against Jacksonville.

With 5:01 left in the fourth quarter and the Chargers chasing 24-17, Herbert got a clean hit from the defensive end of Chiefs Mike Danna when he attempted a pass.

The blow struck Herbert directly in the ribs, causing the Oregon product of pain to squirm to the ground. He went to the sidelines, but returned to the game and led the Chargers on a late touchdown drive to make it a 27-24 game.

The Bolts failed to recover from the ensuing onside kick and the Chiefs broke their record to 2-0.

This week, Herbert has registered with team doctors all week and came to take a few snapshots in the Wednesday and Thursday training in limited capacity.

But in practice on Friday, longtime NFL backup quarterback Chase Daniel — a 14-year veteran and product of the University of Missouri — was seen as the first team representatives. Later, the team listed Herbert as doubtful to play this weekend.

In addition to Herbert, top wide-out Keenan Allen, starting right tackle Trey Pipkins and backup tight end Donald Parham were also listed as questionable.

The injury report also listed starting center Corey Linsley and starting cornerback JC Jackson as questionable.

Jacksonville’s injury list is significantly shorter going into this game, with only cornerback Shaquill Griffin listed as questionable.
