Chappell Roan inadvertently gets Jimmy Fallon to repeat ‘there are gay people’ in the audience as she appears on The Tonight Show

Music sensation Chappell Roan accidentally got Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon to repeat “there are gays” in the audience when she performed on his show Thursday night.

During her performance, Chappell, 26, talked about how she has become known as “your favorite artist’s favorite artist.”

“You said, ‘I’m Chappell Roan, and I’m your favorite artist’s favorite artist,’” Jimmy began.

Chappell explained the tagline, which referred to drag queen Sasha Colby. “That was a reference to Sasha Colby. And she says,” she said, drawing cheers from several fans in the audience. “There are gays here!” she added.

‘Yes! Yes, there are gays here,” Jimmy repeated, laughing.

“Sasha Colby said, “I’m your favorite drag queen’s favorite drag queen.” And… it just touched my heart. And so I thought, ‘I just hope Sasha Colby watches me one day,’ and that’s why I said it,” Chappell explained.

The artist – who claims her aesthetic is heavily influenced by drag queens – has been playing music for more than half her life.

At 17, she uploaded an original song – titled Die Young – to YouTube and was quickly signed to Atlantic Records shortly after before releasing an EP and single and being dropped shortly after in 2020.

After a brief hiatus, Chappell self-released a series of songs in 2022.

The rising artist released his debut album in 2023, titled The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess, on Island Records.

In early 2024, she was the opening act of Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour and performed at the globally renowned festival Coachella and became extremely popular.
