Bordeaux’s bid for promotion to Ligue 1 ended in chaos after their last game of the season was abandoned following a fan attack on Rodez.
The home side needed to win and hoped other results would find their way to claim Ligue 2’s second automatic promotion spot.
But Bordeaux went behind in the 22nd minute on Friday night after Luca Buades scored for the visitors.
And the Rodez midfielder was attacked by a fan on the pitch while celebrating with teammates.
Social media footage showed Buades and another player falling to the ground after the confrontation.

But the celebrations were cut short after a fan ran onto the field to confront the players

After attention from the medical staff, the 25-year-old was taken off the field and the players returned to the dressing room.
Then it was decided to stop the game.
Referee Nicolas Rainville later spoke at a press conference to explain the decision, stating that Buades suffered a concussion.
He said: “The elements are decisive, the player cannot resume the meeting because of a concussion.
“We have respected the rules, which is that the match will not be resumed.”
An LFP statement read: ‘Following the attack on the player Lucas Buades by a supporter from the Bordeaux grandstand, the Bordeaux-Rodez encounter was officially stopped by the referee and the LFP delegates.
The LFP Disciplinary Committee will meet on Monday to study the follow-up.
“The LFP strongly condemns this act of violence against a player and wishes Lucas Buades a speedy recovery.”
