Channel Seven’s disastrous ratings as viewers abandoned the new Ant Middleton-hosted reality series Million Dollar Island – after it was slammed as an ‘amateur version of Survivor’

Channel Seven’s much-hyped new reality series Million Dollar Island has proved a flop with fans.

After scoring 409,000 in the subway ratings for the premiere on Monday, viewers quickly left the Survivor-esque series over the next two nights.

Created by the team behind Big Brother, the show, hosted by SAS Australia’s Ant Middleton, managed to draw just 273,000 viewers in major centers on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Filmed in Malaysia, the show’s format sees 100 contestants compete for $1 million in a survival game set on a remote island.

Meanwhile, The Chase Australia Seven cheered some ratings on Wednesday, with the quiz show gaining 545,000 fans in the country’s largest urban centers.

Home and Away also performed well for the network, scoring a metro score of 497,000 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the ABC’s comedy satire Utopia continues to win big audiences, drawing a whopping 557,000 viewers across its five major centers on Wednesday.

Starring the funny Rob Sitch, and set in the fictional offices of the Nation Building Authority, the hilarious half-hour hit series takes the mickey out of the inner workings of government.

On Nine, the world-traveling reality hit Travel Guides also scored high on Wednesday, winning an impressive metro rating of 632,000 viewers.

On Channel 10, which had a low ratings, MasterChef Australia, meanwhile, attracted a whopping 410,000 viewers in major centers.

It comes after Million Dollar Island took flak from viewers on social media shortly after it fell on Monday.

One viewer complained on Twitter, “Feels like an amateur rip-off from Survivor.”

Another mused, “How do these shows ever get an assignment?” Channel Seven meeting: ‘We will have a bunch of people on an island, they will perform different tasks and there will be a lot of underhandedness along the way.’

‘Me: ‘Oh you mean like Survivor, that program that already exists?’ they added.

“Million Dollar Island is like Survivor had zero immersive contestants for four consecutive seasons and the main gameplay mechanic was hoping someone else would quit,” said another.

“Survivor on steroids,” another social media user commented, “It’s just Survivor but with so many players.”
